The map and table view should link to each other such that you can get a direct link to the table row for a given item/animal/thing from the map view, and a direct link to that thing's marker on the map from the table view.

Maybe in the map view, the popup has a link to the table view? I'm thinking a popup will show <item_name> [| <value>] [| <link_to_table_row>
