We have begun to reimplement the
flopy.mf6
module, starting with the code generation capability underlying it — one step of many on the way to flopy 4.x. Where we determine that non-breaking refactors are possible and justifiable in 3.x, more like this is likely to follow. While we're aiming for zero disturbance, the renovation might break things in ways we don't immediately notice. If you notice rough edges or stumble over anything, please let us know by posting an issue.
While we will continue to attend to the backlog, some things will likely best be addressed in 4.x. We apologize for slower-than-usual response times as effort is balanced between maintenance and development.
We also humbly ask users of the PyPI or conda packages comfortable with installing from source to consider switching to (and semi-frequently updating) the development branch, e.g.
With more people in contact with the latest, we will become aware of (and ideally fix) regressions more quickly. This will expose you to some risk of breakage, however. Many thanks if you do elect to do this!
If you are a MODFLOW 6 developer or "power user" making use of flopy's MODFLOW 6 interface generation utility with a pre-release or custom build of MF6, you are more likely to come in contact with disarray.
