Currently galleries can be added and their type will all be set to a default type.
Downloading metadata does not change the type.
My suggestion is to include an option to have directories be a specified type so that everything in that directory is the specified type.
When combined with directory monitoring this will allow all newly added galleries to immediately be of the proper type.

I tried on several galleries. It does not seem to change the type after downloading metadata regardless of the metadata source. I tried some using e-hentai, exhentai, and chaika. Other than that, all the metadata was present. I tried both automated and manual retrieval of metadata as well. I exited out the program and opened it back up. I looked in the logs, but unless there's more detail than what I'm seeing, it doesn't seem to get that specific. I can still provide it if you like. This was a fresh usage of the v0.27 Alpha, as I did not overwrite a directory, as I have not used Happypanda in some months, though it seems it is now much improved. Hopefully others can chime in as well.
If I don't have "Replace old metadata with new metadata" checked under settings, gallery type doesn't change after metadata fetching. Check it, and it works.
It's a bit of a strange issue. I did a refresh and selected web->metadata->"replace old metadata with new metadata" and unselected web->metadata->"skip galleries that has already been processed in auto metadata fetcher" and then it did change the type from doujinshi to manga.
