Server Features

aqquad edited this page Dec 5, 2024 · 1 revision

This page is all about explaining features found inside the RebornRec server software.

Build Manager

Inside of the "Build Manager" is where you can download and patch builds for use with RebornRec, and quickly access properties about them via the server software.

It uses DepotDownloader to download older versions of Rec Room using your Steam authentication, and then allows you to supply a patch zip file containing a Unity mod loader/patcher to redirect the game's API to the server software.

As of right now, the only version available through the Build Manager is March 10th, 2020, and its patch is found inside the Discord server, sorry, the "old Rec Room" community is still working on reducing reliance on Discord as soon as possible [|=(].

Matchmaking Settings

Inside of "Settings Menu" > "Matchmaking Settings", you have a "Private Rooms ID", "Private Dorm", and "Photon Region".

With Private Rooms ID, you can input any ID you want, and this will separate your instances based off of that ID, and anyone else with the same Private Rooms ID will join the same instances as you, allowing for meetups/recordings that no one else can interfere with.

With Private Dorm, you can choose to join the public Dorm Room, which is available for everyone to join, or your own private Dorm Room, that no one else can join into.

With Photon Region, you can change the photon region you will matchmake within for better connectivity. This comes at the cost of losing people to matchmake with, as you switch from the default "us" region, if you prioritise players over having a bit less latency, stay on "us".

Custom Avatar Items

Inside of "Settings Menu" > "Custom Avatar Items", you can find the ability to import any avatar items you want. This allows users to import avatar items designed by community members who understand Rec Room's avatar item system, and wear them in a majority of versions.

However, the limitations are as follows:

  • Avatar Items will only load properly into builds that contain the colour palette, decals, and textures it uses (no Class Of 2019 in 2017)
  • Can only be combinations of colour palettes, decals, and textures (custom assets would require a mod)
